At the homepage from the 3rd World Sudoku Championship wsc2008.com, you can find now the featured sudoku types from the Championship under download here. There is for me a new type named pencil marks sudoku with the following explanation:
Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through 9. In some of the cells you find all allowed candidates for the specific cell. You can find an example on the homepage.
I have no idea how to start solving this sudoku.(even with the example) Can anybody help me please?

I've just looked at the given example.
First, the solution on the right doesn't seem to be the correct one. In fact, doesn't seem to be linked to this puzzle at all.
How to solve this? Start, for example in the top right 3x3 square. In the top row you have 13 and 13. So you can cancel all other 1s and 3s in that 3x3 square (of course in the top row too.) In the second row of that square you have now (after cancellation) 78 68 78. As obviously 7 and 8 are in the leftmost and rightmost cells in the central cell must be 6. After cancelling 6s,7s and 8s from the bottom row of that 3x3 square you get 4 in the middle bottom, and 5 at the left bottom.
That should be a good start. Use something similar for other sqares, rows and columns. The puzzle seems to be quite easy.

I thought that the solution on the right is correct and that only some and not all of the cells have all the allowed candidates for the specific cell. But I will now try with your proposition.

It worked. Thank you! It is even a very easy type of sudoku. It is just totally different to their solution. So i think they put the wrong solution.

Gosh, so many new variants... I think we'll have some work to do to include them in our list.
